Take your life back from social media!

You are on social media. You see a friend graduating college. Another friend engaged. Another friend on an exotic trip. Another friend playing with her little baby. You see these posts and wonder why you can't have the same blessings, more money, or the life experiences of your friends. The feelings of unfairness hit you and you are left feeling empty and

unhappy.

If you have felt this way before, you are in good company. While on social Media, we have the tendency to paint our lives as picture perfect. We share only the good experiences we have and our accomplishments. We don't share the day-to-day struggles and painful experiences of the typical human life. When we post about our lives, it can feel good- but to some extent it is fake. It doesn't reflect the

reality of a person's life.

Not only can the constant unrealistic comparisons hurt, but it can suck away a lot of time out of our lives without us realizing it. I can definitely say I am guilty of wasting time on social media. I am embarrassed to say that even last week I was stuck watching videos of a guy dressed as a bush scaring people for 2 hours. Thats a LONG time!

This is why we have been encouraged by our church leaders to be wise and intentional about how and how much we use social media. It is wise to put time limits on our phones for social media. It is also wise to avoid comparing while on social media since you know that it's not the complete picture. I strongly believe in this saying that "You need to control technology in your life and not let it control you." Act, don't be acted upon!

I encourage you to take back your life and use your technology wisely. It impacts you more than you know. I promise you will feel more joy and peace in your life as you do this!

Challenge: This week, put timers on your social media accounts to limit your time on social media. While on social media, be intentional about what you look at and why you are on.

Another potential challenge: Go on a week long social media fast! See how your life is different. Journal your experiences.
