Are you filling your soul with filth?

Just a few weeks ago I asked God, "What should I do to clean up my soul?" The answer was to clean up the music I listen to. The music I exercise to isn't "bad," but God made it clear that a "hell" and "damn" here and there was offensive to the Him as well as songs that speak about promiscuity and drugs. Though some of them had such a good beat and were great to work out to, I deleted them from my playlist. I felt God was asking me "Lovest thou me more than these?"

Without realizing it, we are pouring so many things into our soul throughout each day. From the music we listen to to the movies we watch. From the people that we interact with to our inner dialogue. From our daily actions to the social media we consume. What is so important about this is our intension. Do we mean to be filling our souls with filth?

My suggestion is to take control of what enters your soul!

This is hard work, but work that is so worth it. It's like cleaning out our garage or our closets. Taking the time to do so will ultimately bring you more happiness and help you feel so clean. As we work on our habits and are intentional about what touches our spirits, we will feel closer to God.

What's nice is that the Holy Ghost is our buddy in this project. His role is to "purify" and "cleanse" us. If our hearts are open to change, through God's power he will show us EXACTLY what we need to do.

I LOVE the talk by Elder Lawrence that invites us to ask God "What lack I yet?" Where we ask God humbly what we need to stop doing and what we should be doing. God is so eager to help us! We need to have an ear to hear and a heart willing to act especially since the answer won't always be something we want to hear.

But is it worth it? My answer is YES! God knows us best and what edges need to be knocked off us to bring us closer to Him. We can trust Him and let the holy spirit guide.

Challenge: Kneel before God, ask him "What do I need to be doing that I am not? What do I need to stop doing?" Write down all the things that the Holy Ghost brings to mind. Then create an action plan to make the changes :)
